2012.35: 7/23-7/29

Sunday: No riding.

Saturday: Did some more training on the track tandem with Steve.  We did some flying 200s here and there. I felt really sluggish all day.  I don't know if it was the humidity or just all the leg work I've been doing.  Maybe I just suck.  All very possible.  Either way, our times felt slow, but we seemed smooth, so that's what's important.  In the evening I did leg stretches, transverse planks and some pushups.

Friday: No riding.  3x10 squats in the evening.

Thursday: Thought I had enough time between dinner and impending storm of dhoom to do some sprints.  Nope.  I was able to do one nice downhill sprint to the beach, one strong sprint start until an r/c car almost drove in front of my wheel (I just can't get away from these things), and then three solid sprints after that.  I only was able to sprint from the usual start to about halfway between the two crosswalks, but I think that's good enough.  I think I might revise my sprint start/finish locations as the sprint is way too long right now.  After that final sprint, I looked back and realized the massive storm front was right on me, so I had to try to TT back home.  I was doing alright, just getting pushed around by wind and worrying about the sudden darkness, but then by the time I got to 50 acre the skies opened and I got drenched.

Wednesday: No riding.  Last day of sailing class

Tuesday: Got up early (well, didn't go to bed) to help Ron with a ride that he does for his spin class people.  Then another ride after that.  I got a flat when I nailed a pothole, but a quick fix and I was rolling again.  Afterward, Steve and I met at the track to do some tandem work.  Beyond almost getting crashed out by some stupid dog, I think we're doing well.

Thanks to a post on bikeforums talking about a 50th anniversary party at Penrose Park Velodrome in Saint Louis, I've come to realize that our beloved Kissena is also roughly 50 years old.  Sadly, nobody seems to know exactly when the track was completed.  If I figure out, I think Pink Rhino Racing will put on an anniversary celebration as well.  In other news, the date for State Track Championships has been announced.  August 18th.  Mark your calendars.  And on a side note, looking through bikereg I see CRCA is having their own track championships this year.  I guess they didn't feel they were fully expressing their "We're too good for you non-CRCA racers" attitude.  What a bunch of wankers.  EDIT: looking closer at the event, it looks like it might actually be an attempt by Alan to get more CRCA guys on the track.  In which case, I'm all for it.  Though my previous opinion of most CRCA racers still stands.  Deal with it.

Sunday: No riding.  My legs were feeling beat up.

Saturday: Rode up to the lighthouse again.  On the way back I was inspired to check out crane's neck.  It's weird, All the times I rode through the area, I never went down that way because they have a brick gate by the road.  Also, backtracking a little bit, I tried for the old field sprint again, but I came upon a dog in the middle of the road.  Of course he started walking straight toward the side of the road I wanted to pass him on, so I had to slow down.  Boo.  EDIT: I also did 2x10 squats at night.  Couldn't get a third set in.

Friday: So I had signed up for that latest Rapha challenge on strava.  I don't know why I bother.  I haven't completed a single one.  Somehow climbing a lot or riding a ton don't seem to mesh well with trying to race on the track.  Maybe Strava will start having more velodrome-friendly challenges.  Regardless, I decided to go out in the mist/rain to do some cordwood intervals.  I think in order to beat the challenge I needed to do 120 repeats.  I managed to get in 20.  Around interval 14 or so, I started to get a throbbing in my rear brake, but I just figured it was from a crash I had a few years ago that left the rim a little tweaked.  Interval 17 was very sketchy though, so I stopped and looked at the rim.  Turns out I had a piece of something embedded in my rim.  I wasn't able to pick it out with my finger nail, so I had to take my rear wheel off and use a street sign to scrape the offending bit of whatsit off.  Did three more repeats in a bit of a deluge which finally soaked my socks, and then I gave up and limped home.  On the topic of soaking my socks, I was able to keep my feet dry for so long because I wrapped plastic bags around my shoes and then put my assos shoe covers over top to make it look less stupid.  Genius.

Thursday: No riding.  Worked for Walter for a bit to get some racing money again.

Wednesday: No riding.  Did 3x10 squats at 96ish lbs.  I think that's about it.  It very likely was rainy during the day or something.

Tuesday: Slept a lot today.  I finally got motivated to ride about an hour before dinner, so I just did a short ride to long beach and back.  Along the way I tried to beat two Strava KOMs just for kicks.  Having a tailwind helped.

Monday: Rode to Roadworx, the shop of shops, to bring back some handlebars.  It was balls hot, but I survived.  On a side note, there are like 20 different landing avenue segments on strava now.  what the hell.

Race: Kreb Friday Night 7/13

The race report.  It was hot.  I was planning on sitting in.  Instead I attacked a bunch.  Basically led out both primes for some reason, but I was able to stay with the pack the whole time.  That's about it.  I was a dick to some guy who got upset when I unintentionally closed the door on him while he was trying to advance along the gutter in the second prime sprint.

Maybe I'll write more if I feel like it.  But I probably won't.  Apparently chris didn't know I switched to Pink Rhino.  Whoops.

10.7.12

2012.33: 7/9 - 7/15

Sunday: Team picnic at the track.  Tried out the track tandem.  We also took some photos and weeded the top of the track.  Yeah, our team rocks.

Saturday: No riding.  Not sure why.

Friday: Raced the Friday Kreb race.  See race report.

Thursday: Went in to brooklyn to help andy rebuild his road bike after his crash last week.  Afterward, we did an easy shakedown ride over to rockleigh to watch the crit.  On the way we met up with a cool guy named Chris from CT by way of CO.  Real strong guy.  On the way back andy hung back with a kissena teammate who was coming back from rocleigh and I opted to go ahead with Chris.  That was a bit much for my legs, but I held on.  Waiting at the GWB we ran into Brean, which was cool.  In manhattan Andy and I got some Chipotle and right afterward, I rode straight through a red light without even thinking.  I blame my burrito coma.  Fortunately, I somehow made it through in a lucky gap between cars.  In hindsight, it was pretty scary.

Wednesday: Sailing lessons.  No riding.  Woke up at 6am thinking it was 6pm, ran out the door to go to my lesson.  That was weird.

Tuesday: No racing at t-town, so I decided to get a good evening ride in.  I saw I had recently lost a KOM on strava for a segment that I didn't even realize was a segment, so I figured I would give it a go again.  I don't really know why this was even created, as it includes a railroad crossing, a 4 way stop, and two traffic lights.  Needless to say, I got stopped at the railroad crossing, the stop, and one traffic light.  But somehow I still got the KOM back.  Magic.  On the way back, I saw someone trying real hard to get up campus bicycle hill.  I bet he was going for that segment.  Also, I went to check up on the rhododendrons and managed to see a big ol' buck in the middle of the road.  Also also, stopping at cordwood park, some little girl told her mother "look mommy, that man has a rhino on his shirt!"  Damn right. I think that's all the news that's fit to print.

2.7.12

2012.32: 7/2-7/8

Sunday: nope, still not.

Saturday: more not riding.

Friday: still not riding.

Thursday: not riding.

Wednesday: Rode in the morning with a para-triathlete and her father.  It was a beautiful day, that's for sure. My ribs were killing me on any bump that I went over, so I decided not to race at Kissena that night.  However, Karl was racing, so I still went in and took some photos for the team.

Monday: Rest day.  Rested.  I think I slept weird last night, because my ribs are killing me today.
